As our current grant funding for the COGAG Denbighshire Food Partnership comes to an end, we’ve been taking some time to reflect on what this support has made possible—and the difference it has had for our community.
Over the past months, the funding has enabled us to create welcoming, creative spaces where Veterans could come together, connect, and take part in meaningful activities. At the heart of our work has been a simple but powerful idea: that sharing food and creativity can bring people together in ways that support wellbeing, reduce isolation, and build a stronger sense of community.
Through the project, we delivered a range of arts and crafts sessions designed to be inclusive, relaxed, and accessible. These sessions gave people the opportunity to try something new, rediscover old skills, or simply enjoy a few hours of creativity in a supportive environment. For many, it wasn’t just about the activity itself—it was about having somewhere to go, something to look forward to, and people to share it with.
Alongside the creative sessions, we were able to provide hot food and drinks at each gathering. This was a vital part of what we offered. Sharing a warm meal created a sense of comfort and care, helping people feel welcome and valued. It also ensured that those attending had access to nutritious food, which is especially important during challenging times when many are facing increased financial pressure.
What we’ve seen throughout this project is the powerful impact of combining creativity with food. Conversations flowed more easily, friendships began to form, and people who may have felt isolated found a place where they belonged. The sessions became more than just activities—they became a small but meaningful community.
We’ve also learned a great deal along the way. We’ve seen how important it is to create spaces that are flexible and responsive to people’s needs, and how small, thoughtful touches—like a hot drink or a friendly welcome—can make a big difference.
As this phase of funding comes to a close, we are incredibly grateful to the COGAG Denbighshire Food Partnership for their support. Their investment has allowed us to reach people, build connections, and demonstrate the value of combining food and creativity to support wellbeing.
While this particular project is ending, the need it has highlighted is ongoing. We are committed to continuing this work in whatever ways we can, and to building on what we have learned to develop future opportunities for our community.
To everyone who joined us at a session, shared a meal, or picked up a paintbrush—thank you. You are what made this project so special.
